UTStarcom Receives Innovation Award for Triple Network Convergence Solutions at Major China Cable Trade Show
Mar. 31, 2011 (PR Newswire) --
BEIJING, March 31, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia-FirstCall/ -- UTStarcom, Inc. ("UTStarcom" or "the Company") (Nasdaq: UTSI), a leading provider of interactive, IP-based network solutions in iDTV, IPTV, Internet TV and Broadband for cable and telecom operators, announced today that it has received the Innovation Award issued by China's Ministry of Science and Technology for its end-to-end solution designed to serve the technology and service needs of Triple Network Convergence ("TNC"), the Chinese government policy of converging the cable, Internet and voice networks. The award was presented during one of China's most influential trade shows for cable operators, the China Content Broadcasting Network ("CCBN") exhibition.
The Innovation Award was established to further enhance the competitiveness of the Chinese cable industry. It rewards the achievements of individuals and enterprises for their contributions in creative uses of technology to meet business and technical needs in the cable industry.
"We are honored that the Ministry of Science and Technology recognized the innovative design concept, leading technology and comprehensive and reliable technical support of our end-to-end solution," said Jack Lu, President and CEO of UTStarcom. "This award recognizes our ability to leverage our existing technological advantage to better serve cable operators. We will continue to pursue the great market opportunities in TNC that have been created by this Chinese government policy.
The end-to-end technology and service solution consists of four parts: the IPTV and iDTV platforms; the IPTV broadcasting control platform; the Ethernet Passive Optical Network ("EPON"); as well as the Ethernet over Copper ("EOC") cable connection network.
Both IPTV and iDTV platforms were designed based on UTStarcom's RollingStream technology for telecom and cable operators. They allow carriers to offer comprehensive and interactive television and multimedia services that can generate newer and higher margin revenues. Through years of research and development in this field, our RollingStream product family has been well accepted and commercially deployed worldwide.
UTStarcom's IPTV broadcasting control platform can support the content distribution functions of IPTV, iDTV and Internet TV in a secure environment. In 2010, the Company built six IPTV broadcast control platforms, one in each of Sichuan, Shenzhen, Beijing, Hubei, Hunan and Shandong which were successfully connected with the central-level platform.
UTStarcom's EPON plus EOC cable connection network can bear multi-play broadcasting of video, audio and data on a large-scale. It can also support the high-bandwidth needs of the Next Generation Broadcasting ("NGB") network and is easy to manage and maintain. More importantly, this network can be connected to the existing regional cable networks which can provide significant economic benefit to cable operators by saving additional investment in upgrading and maintenance services.
